Duties & Responsibilities: provides access to
medical information through books, pamphlets, journals, tapes, multimedia
presentations, and the Internet. Health science librarians help health
providers, patients, and students sort through the vast amount of information
available.
Salary: Average $58,000
Education: must graduate from high school, taking
classes such as English, math, typing, and science. A four-year bachelor's
degree is then required, including courses such as science and computer
science. A master's degree in library science (MLS) is mandatory. Courses
include scientific literature, biomedical communication, bibliographic resource
use, library organization and management, and standard cataloging systems.
Reflection: Being a health science librarian is
something I might look into the future. I love helping people out especially when
it comes to medical stuff and I love encouraging people to self-advocate and be
a help to others as well. I also would like to get this job because I like
educating people and making them aware of new health innovations or anything
that has to do with the medical field. There is also so much information
available out there in the world so it is also good to inform people as a
librarian and letting them know options available out there. In conclusion, a health science librarian can
help an individual go a long way and get educated.
